29 Takeaways from MozCon 2014

This year was the first time I have been to MozCon. I can honestly say that I hope it won’t be my last!

As I was sitting and listening to the speakers, I thought to my self “I wonder how many people will be writing recap blogs about this?” Then Dr. Pete Meyers gave me a great idea while going over his presentation “How to Never Run Out of Great Ideas.” Now, when I say he gave an idea, I just mean that something in his presentation made something click in my head.

I figured there will be 101 different “What I learned from MozCon” and “MozCon 2014 Recap” posts, so I had to come up with something different, something unique, something no one had done before. With that, I came up with THE idea. And here it is.

29 (literal) Takeaways from MozCon 2014

WebRanking’s Guide for Eating & Drinking in Portland

SEMpdx’s Searchfest is right around the corner and WebRanking is excited to play a role in what we consider to be the best one day digital marketing conference anywhere. Our founder Tony Svoboda is on the SEMpdx’s board of directors, while our CEO James Svoboda will be speaking at Searchfest for the first time.

So, you might ask, what is WebRanking’s most tenured non-Svoboda contributing this year to make Searchfest awesome?

Glad you asked.

The 5 Hard Truths of Content Development

by | January 14th, 2014 | Posted in Blogging, Content | Comments (1)

It’s the start of a brand new year which means new beginnings and resolutions. For some of you this is also the time you commit (once again) to making content a priority for your website and blog.

So to prevent another year of unfulfilled resolutions and empty blog posts, we present the 5 Hard Truths You Need to Know Before Committing to Content Development.

#1. It Isn’t Supposed to be Easy

If good content was easy to create, you’d already have a blog filled with great posts and probably wouldn’t need to be reading this article.

The truth is that quality content is time consuming (don’t ask how long it has taken me to write this post). Good content requires creativity, diligence and commitment. Producing consistently good content should frequently be a pain in the ass.

But if you are a marketer, isn’t that why you got into this business? Didn’t you want to be creative, and produce consistently great work while adapting to new trends and strategies?

by | January 8th, 2014 | Posted in Blogging, Minnesota Events | Comments (2)

Minnesota Welcomes You

Minnesota Welcomes You!

Finding content inspiration can often be a lot like fishing for walleye. You can spend all day trolling the lake, dropping your line in every cove you find, only to end up with a string of sunnies. But when you find the right hole, and hook a big one, you know the work was all worth it.

To help you prepare for your next content outing, we’ve decided to help stock your tackle box with some fresh content bait. So we did some scouting and put together a calendar of Minnesota events to give you some ideas and help inspire your social media and content marketing for 2014.

2013 Holiday Toy Drive and Company Dinner

Cheers from WebRanking!

On December 8, 2013 in Minneapolis, the Minnesota WebRanking crew gathered once again in what is now becoming a tradition. We got together to celebrate the holidays, and a very successful 2013 for our company.

The Portland crew did not join us this year. We were fortunate to have them in Minnesota last year as all the stars aligned and schedules worked out perfectly to have them with us. Alas, the stars were crooked this year. But that didn’t stop us!

The 2013 Local Search Ranking Factors is released

Nobody knows Local Search like David Mihm, which is why each year’s Local Search Ranking Factors release is something that’s always anticipated by the search community. This year the 2013 Local Search Ranking Factors survey looks at general ranking factors, specific ranking factors, negative factors along with discussions and input from the experts.

And once again our very own James Svoboda was asked to participate as one of the experts for this annual survey.

Google+: The Unsocial Network (for marketers)

by | July 31st, 2013 | Posted in Social Media | Comments (1)

Search Snippet #8 - All Things Google Plus

I had the honor of presenting at the MnSearch event “Search Snippets #8: The Pro’s Positive Perspective on All Things Google+” in Minneapolis, MN. The presentation I gave had to be slimmed down to fit within 20’ish minutes. Here is the full version presentation entitled “Google+: The Unsocial Network (for marketers)“.

The basis of this presentation is to look at Google+ from a unique perspective. It shows Google+’s impact on Google’s search engine and advertising offerings, as well as how businesses and marketing professionals can use Google+ effectively.

I hope you enjoy it!
